Utrecht, HollantiCritical Theory Beyond Negativity: the Ethics, Politics and Aesthetics of Affirmation
The intensive course “Critical Theory Beyond Negativity: the Ethics, Politics and Aesthetics of Affirmation” explores critical theory in the Continental philosophy tradition, with special reference to the work of Gilles Deleuze, Luce Irigaray, Henri Bergson and Rosi Braidotti. The course offers an introduction to contemporary critical debates on the function of ‘the negative’ in the construction of subjects and of their epistemic and ethical values. Starting from an assumption that we are in the midst a ‘posthuman turn,’ it explores different aspects of posthuman subjectivity and stresses the productive potential of the posthuman condition, advocating for the politics of affirmation.

Helsinki, SuomiCombating Gender Stereotypes in and through Education”
Education is a basic human right recognised by international law, notably by the European Convention on Human Rights. Through compulsory education, children and young people, whatever their gender, are prepared and empowered to fully participate in society. The education system sets the basis upon which countries preserve their heritage and contribute to their overall development and prosperity.

Roskilde, TanskaGender and Diversity—Travelling Concepts across Time and Space
Any field of research has key analytical concepts, including gender studies. In this course
some of the key analytical concepts are identified, their history is illustrated and their
applicability discussed. Concepts often become fashionable – and salient - and turn into
fast travelling concepts. However, analytical notions are also situated in space which has
been shown for the concept of ‘class’ and recently ‘intersectionality’.

Oldenburg, SaksaINTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE Migrations of Knowledge: Potentials and Limits of Knowledge Production and Critique in Europe and Africa
Forty years ago the University of Oldenburg was founded as a new regional academic institution open to democratic reforms of teaching and research, while emphasizing the social commitment of science in its declaration of principles. Other reform universities such as Bremen or Osnabrück share this critical approach. Particularly the decision to name the university after Carl von Ossietzky embodied research understood as critical intervention. Carl von Ossietzky, a pacifist journalist and radical critic of the complicity of science and technology with militarism, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1935 when he was detained in the concentration camp Esterwegen near Oldenburg. He died in 1938 in Berlin due to his suffering during his imprisonment.
